Who we are

Boring Utils provides TimeHUD, an Android app for managing goals, viewing screen time, and setting usage restrictions. This policy explains how the app handles information and how to contact us about privacy.

Information used on your device

• Goals and preferences. Goal text, completion state, app selections, daily limits, schedules, and settings are saved in the app’s local storage to provide its features.
• Screen time and app usage. With Usage Access enabled, TimeHUD reads Android usage events and app-usage information to calculate screen time, show usage, and enforce the limits you choose. It also reads the names and identifiers of launchable apps to display app-selection lists.
• Calendar. If you grant calendar permission, TimeHUD reads event titles, start and end times, all-day status, and calendar identifiers, names, and colors from the Android Calendar Provider to display your agenda. Calendar access is read-only. TimeHUD does not create, edit, or delete calendar events, or turn them into saved goals.
• Accessibility information. If you enable the accessibility service, TimeHUD processes visible app package names, window titles, text and accessibility descriptions exposed by the interface, view identifiers, editable-field state, focus, and window position and size. This information is processed in memory to recognize supported app sections, measure focused use, and apply your blocking rules. Interface text can include personal content exposed by another app. TimeHUD does not persist or transmit message bodies, captions, usernames, or screen contents.

These features may operate while TimeHUD’s main screen is closed, when its HUD or accessibility service is enabled. The app does not send this device information to Boring Utils or an analytics, advertising, or AI service.

Why permissions are requested

Display over other apps shows the screen-time bubble and goal check-in. Usage Access supports screen-time calculations and app limits. The optional accessibility service draws blocking overlays and can return to the Android home screen when you close a blocked check-in. Calendar permission enables the optional agenda. Notifications and foreground-service access support the running HUD. Boot and app-update events allow an enabled HUD to restart when its required permissions remain available.

You can stop the HUD in TimeHUD and revoke permissions or disable its accessibility service in Android Settings. Features that depend on a revoked permission will no longer work.

Sharing and backups

TimeHUD does not sell your information and has no built-in cloud synchronization, advertising, analytics, or remote account database.

You can explicitly export your goal text as a JSON file through Android’s file picker, or import a file you select. The export includes goal text and an export timestamp. If you choose a cloud-backed file provider or share that file, the provider or recipient receives it under its own privacy practices. Exported files are not encrypted by TimeHUD; choose their destination carefully. Automatic Android backup of app data is disabled.

Your calendar provider, Android, Google Play, and other apps operate under their own privacy policies. Their independent processing is not controlled by TimeHUD.

Storage, retention, and deletion

App settings and saved goals remain in Android’s app-private storage until changed, removed, or cleared. You can delete individual goals within TimeHUD. Clearing TimeHUD’s storage or uninstalling it removes its local app data. Exported files remain wherever you saved them and must be deleted separately. Removing TimeHUD does not delete calendar events or Android’s underlying usage records.

We do not maintain a server copy of your in-app goals or usage information. Device security depends on Android’s protections and your own device settings; no storage method can guarantee absolute security.

Children and families

TimeHUD is intended for users of all ages, including children. Its core features process data locally as described above, and the app does not require a child to create an account, provide contact details, or send information to us. There are no ads or in-app social messaging features. A parent or guardian should help younger children understand permissions and manage any exported files.

Contacting us

If you email us, your address and the information you choose to send are handled by our email provider so we can respond to your inquiry. This is separate from the app’s local processing. You may request deletion of support correspondence by emailing the privacy contact; any applicable legal retention requirements or email-provider backup retention may still apply.

This website and policy updates

This policy page does not ask for app data or provide a data-upload form. Its hosting provider may process ordinary web-request information, such as an IP address and browser details, to deliver and secure the page.

We may update this policy when TimeHUD or its data practices change. The effective date above identifies the latest revision. Material changes to permission use will also be explained in the app where appropriate.
